I'm J.P Spencer; In the comics community I often go by my pen name Pensir. It’s also the name of my officially registered trademark, partially because of my main art style of choice being B&W pen drawings, that typically come in the form of my on-going graphic novel series. I also formally study philosophy at CUNY Queens College.
Visual art to me means capturing thoughts, emotions, and life wisdom of me and individuals around me, and re-expressing them metaphorically in a way that'll provide value for myself and countless generations after me. That is the guiding philosophy that informs almost every art project I start -specially my comics. While I've been working on my B.A in philosophy, I've created a handful of comics that combine philosophical concepts and my own, unique style in sequential arts. It's part of a an on-going mission of mine to bring philosophy to the comics industry, and the comics industry to academic philosophy.
When I'm not at the drawing board, you can often find me at one of the Public Libraries of Queens, at the studios of The Art Students League of New York, or the Metropolitan Transit Authority's F-line.
While you're following my career, you can expect illustrations and comics, photographs of mostly landscapes, and
the occasional comic strip about something interesting I witnessed while venturing in the streets of New York City.*
But most importantly, you'll
receive freguent-ish updates on my 7-year old baby, which is a graphic novel series by the name of "Day with Hope" **.
